On the evening of January 4, the 39th Golden Disc Awards took place in Fukuoka, Japan. The second awards ceremony will continue the following day (January 5).
The 3 MCs of this year's awards ceremony include Sung Si Kyung, Cha Eun Woo (Astro) and Moon Ga Young.
However, due to the national mourning period in Korea following the Jeju Air plane tragedy, two live broadcasts of the Golden Disc Awards on JTBC have been canceled. The program was recorded and will be aired later on January 6-7.
On the first night, aespa won the Daesang (Grand Award) Song of the Year for their hit song “Supernova”.
This achievement helped Aespa level the record with Newjeans, becoming the two 4th generation Kpop groups to win the most Daesang in history - each group of 11 Daesang awards.
The 10 artists who won the Best Digital Song award include: NewJeans - "How Sweet", aespa - "Supernova", (G)I-DLE - "Fate", TWS - "Plot Twist", ILLIT - "Magnetic", Kiss Of Life - "Sticky", DAY6 - "Welcome to the Show", Taeyeon - "To.X", BIBI - "Bam Yang Gang", IU - "Love wins all".
LE SSERAFIM won 2 awards: Best Group and Most Popular Female Artist.
Rookie of the Year awards went to ILLIT and TWS.
Finally, NewJeans won the Cosmopolitan Artist award.
The 39th Golden Disc Awards will hold its second awards night on the evening of January 5.
