According to Allkpop, recently, Korean netizens discovered an article posted by media outlet Money Today, talking about the return of BTS member Jin after completing his mandatory military service, mentioning Rose (Blackpink).
The reporter affirmed that BTS is the group that has brought Kpop and Kpop culture to become a global trend.
It includes a passage: “The source of power that helps HYBE become a dinosaur in the entertainment industry is BTS.
BTS has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart 8 times (including individual activities) and entered the chart more than 50 times in total. Of the Billboard Hot 100 records set by Kpop artists, the majority are BTS.
Recently, Blackpink’s Rose reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her collaboration with Bruno Mars, “APT.” In a broader sense, this was possible because BTS paved the way for a global pop market that had no knowledge of K-pop.”
The article received mixed reactions. On Naver, viewers commented: “Why is BTS the reason Rose’s “APT.” is successful? They’re not even in the same company and this is a very subjective article.”
“If you look at it that way, BTS’s success is also thanks to PSY’s previous achievements. Don’t try to attribute other people’s success to a third party. That’s no different than denying their efforts.”
“They are trying to contact Rose because she is successful.”
“They even try to take credit for the careers that Blackpink and Rose have built over the past 8 years. It feels so uncomfortable when they flood social media with the words ‘BTS paved the way’ every time another artist succeeds.”
"Don't they know who Bruno Mars is?".
“Gangnam Style” and “APT.” are songs that topped the charts because the public actually listened to them and they became hits. They weren’t songs that made it to the charts through dozens of remixes and downloads organized by fandom.”
Some others suspect that this media outlet was bribed by HYBE to write articles that overly praise the achievements of artists in the group.
However, there are also opinions that agree, saying that the article is questioning the whole Kpop scene, so it is correct to say that BTS indirectly paved the way for Rose's success.
In another development, the song “APT.” has spent its fourth week on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This week, “APT.” is ranked 13th, up 2 places from last week. In addition, “APT.” has spent its fourth consecutive week at the top of both the Global 200 and Global Excl. US Billboard charts.
Rose currently holds the record for the K-pop artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify, with 56 million listeners as of November 19.
