Ten Asia newspaper reported that industry insiders confirmed that YG Entertainment has transferred the trademark rights to the activity names "G-Dragon" and "GD" to Big Bang member Kwon Ji Yong (real name of G-Dragon).
The transfer of brand rights is done without any fees.
YG made this decision because they believe that G-Dragon is a highly iconic artist, and the added value of the brand will be maximized when transferred to G-Dragon.
Accordingly, the male singer will be able to freely use the name "G-Dragon" in connection with his solo activities in the future.
A YG official confirmed to Ten Asia: "It is true that the trademark rights to G-Dragon and GD have been transferred to this artist."
G-Dragon's current management company, Galaxy Corporation, also explained, "The trademark rights to "G-Dragon" have been transferred to him. There is absolutely no problem using the name G-Dragon to promote."
Since trademark rights are generally recognized as important intellectual property (IP) rights, YG's decision will be noted as an important case in the industry.
This move was also supported by the public. Previously, YG has repeatedly shown support for artists who have left the company. Recently, YG has made a move to promote 2NE1's re-export.

G-Dragon debuted with the group Big Bang in 2006 and is the person who created a series of great marks in Kpop history. Through Big Bang and solo activities, he has conquered the global fan community with hit songs composed and written by himself.
G-Dragon also established himself as a symbol of fashion, culture and art, far beyond the limits of an idol singer.
After 23 years together, G-Dragon parted ways with YG in the middle of last year. In December 2023, he officially signed an exclusive contract with Galaxy Corporation, marking a new chapter in his career.
At the end of March, Galaxy CEO Choi Yongho confirmed that G-Dragon will return in the second half of this year and is actively preparing for this comeback.
