According to Nielsen Korea, episode 8 of the Korean drama “When the phone rings” aired on MBC on the evening of December 21 achieved an average nationwide rating of 7% - the highest level since its broadcast.
Episode 8 opens with the sensational kissing scene at the end of episode 7, when Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin) confesses that she is the "fake 406" (the real 406 is the one who kidnapped Hee Joo and called to threaten Se Eon initially), but Baek Se Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) responds that he has no way to stop loving Hee Joo even though he knows the truth.
After clearing up the misunderstandings, the couple returned home together and had many sweet moments.
In another drama, Baek Se Eon openly confronts his father Baek Ui Yong, who is running for president. After the real “406” sends a wreath to his office threatening to reveal the truth, Se Eon actively uses the media as bait to find the kidnapper.
Mr. Baek Ui Yong angrily went to his in-laws' house. From here, many secrets of both families gradually revealed. Chairman Baek Jang Ho (Baek Se Eon's grandfather) had signed a confidentiality agreement with Hong Hee Joo's father in the past. Both Baek Se Eon and Hong Hee Joo were innocent children who were exploited for the purposes of adults.
The real “406” initially urged Hee Joo to return the phone, but then changed his mind and sent her a mysterious video, in order to lure her into finding out the secret that Sa Eon was hiding.
Hee Joo seeks out the male lead Ji Sang Woo (Huh Nam Joon) - who is investigating the case of missing children in the orphanage years ago. But Sang Woo's behavior becomes increasingly suspicious.
He took Hee Joo to the old mansion where the disappearance took place. Then, on the way back in the car, he bluntly exposed the fact that Hee Joo could talk and questioned whether anyone else besides him knew about this.
At this moment, Baek Se Eon followed closely behind Sang Woo's car. He accelerated and blocked the front of the car. Se Eon rushed forward and pulled Hee Joo out of the car, much to Sang Woo's surprise (he did not know the relationship between the male and female leads).
Se Eon also made it clear that she suspected Sang Woo was involved with “406” because since his appearance, there have been continuous threats, kidnappings, and bombings.
At the end of the episode, the tension and suspense become more intense. Baek Se Eon recalls the moment he witnessed his grandfather Baek Jang Ho drowning a child in the river (possibly the real Baek Se Eon). He also recalls the warm time he spent with a man living by the river (possibly Se Eon's adoptive father).
This man sent Se Eon the words "it's alive" which made him immediately go to his place to find the truth.
Se Eon suddenly saw smoke coming from the man's house. He rushed to save the man. But a loud explosion caused by an electrical short circuit caused both Se Eon and the man to pass out in the middle of the fire, their lives were in danger.
