On the afternoon of December 30, ADOR Company posted a notice expressing its deepest condolences to the victims of the recent plane tragedy, and sharing the pain with the victims' families.
At the same time, ADOR said that the group NewJeans will attend the program "66th Japan Record Awards" of Japanese TV station TBS and the event "Countdown Japan 24/25" as scheduled.
"This schedule was forced to proceed after considering the impact from the organizer and other related factors. We regret that we have to carry out this activity at the present time. We hope fans understand," ADOR said.
Many other groups under HYBE Group such as LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT, and TXT also posted similar announcements to announce that they will attend the Japan Record Awards ceremony taking place on the evening of December 30 as planned.
The five members of NewJeans then made a special move. On their own Instagram account - jeanzforfree - they posted a photo of themselves wearing black floral ribbons on the collars of their white performance costumes, and wrote the message: "Our sincerest condolences."
NewJeans' actions received positive reactions from Korean audiences, because artists who still participate in entertainment activities during this time are easily condemned.
Japan Record Awards is the oldest and most prestigious music award in Japan.
At this year's awards ceremony, NewJeans set a record by becoming the first K-pop girl group to be awarded "Best Work" for the second consecutive year, for the song "Supernatural", after winning last year with "Ditto".
The Outstanding Work Award selects 10 songs that have achieved popularity with the public and are artistically outstanding.
Additionally, ILLIT won the “New Artist” award. This is the first time in 13 years that a K-pop girl group has received this award since 2NE1 in 2011.
TXT received the “Special Award” for artists who had a significant impact during the year.
LE SSERAFIM was honored with the “Special International Music Award” honoring artists with outstanding achievements worldwide.
