On May 28, Miss Grand International Rachel Gupta (Indien) announced her decision to give up the title of Miss Grand International (MGI) 2024.
Rachel said that the months after her coronation were a period of "failed promises, unfair treatment and a toxic environment" that prevented her from keeping her mouths.
After that, the Miss Grand International organization announced the termination of Rachel Gupta's title of Miss Grand International 2024 with immediate effect.
MGI also asked Rachel to return the crown within 30 days and emphasized that she is no longer allowed to use the title or image related to the Miss Grand International 2024 title.
The incident continues to attract public attention. Many viewers also questioned the possibility of Miss Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien being stripped of her MGI 2021 title.
Thuy Tien and Mr. Nawat - Chairman of MGI - have been repeatedly suspected of discord, "facial dissatisfaction". In 2023, she was unfollowed by Mr. Nawat and MGI's Instagram.
As for Thuy Tien, after her term ended, she removed the MGI 2021 title from her personal Instagram page. When Mr. Nawat arrived in Vietnam to compete in the Miss Grand Vietnam contest, Thuy Tien had her own schedule so she could not pick her up at the airport.
After that, Thuy Tien and Mr. Nawat met again on MGI's schedules, still maintaining a friendly attitude but no longer as close as before.
When Thuy Tien was first crowned internationally, she was considered the "golden egg breeder" for MGI.
In 2022, Mr. Nawat - President of Miss Grand International revealed that Thuy Tien had earned at least 2-3 million USD (equivalent to 48 - 72 billion VND). Her main income comes from attending events and being an ambassador for many domestic and international brands and labels.
Mr. Nawat shared: "Since Tien was crowned, she has received many advertising contracts from major brands in Vietnam and internationally. Tien helps increase sales and bring profits to Miss Grand Vietnam".
Another time, the Chairman of MGI said that Thuy Tien earned 100 million Baht (about 61 billion VND) after only 3 months of being crowned thanks to her coverage in TV shows and advertisements.
In recent years, the MGI organization has been involved in many scandals because of its organization method. They once caused controversy for organizing voting races to attract interaction to social networking sites. Mr. Nawat commented that Doan Thien An's figure was unattractive, choosing the top 5 without objectivity, to let the top 5 livestream to sell food...
Previously, in 2015, beauty Anea Garcia - representative of the Dominican Republic and also Miss Grand International 2015 - had her crown stripped of just a few months after being crowned.
At that time, the organizers thought that she could not fulfill her obligations for personal reasons. 1st runner-up Claire Elizabeth Parker (Australia) was then replaced to keep the crown.
