According to the Korean Film Council, as of the morning of May 24, the movie "Colony" has attracted a total of 1,089,996 viewers. This is currently the movie released in 2026 reaching the milestone of 1 million tickets fastest, surpassing the previous achievement of "The King's Warden".
“Colony” premiered from May 21, meaning the work only took less than 4 days to reach the milestone of millions of tickets at the Korean box office.
Under the direction of director Yeon Sang Ho - who is behind famous works such as "Train to Busan" or "Peninsula" - "Colony" continues to exploit the zombie theme but in a different direction.
The film is set inside a commercial center completely blocked after a bioterror disaster caused by a mutated virus. Here, survivors face infected organisms that are evolving in an unpredictable way.
Unlike the traditional zombie image, the creatures in "Colony" are built in a more organized and fearsome adaptability direction. The closed space, depleted resources and survival pressure make the film have a tense and suffocating color throughout.
Korean media assessed that Yeon Sang Ho continues to promote his strengths in building a fast paced film, a sense of chaos and psychological conflicts between people in the apocalyptic situation. In addition to the zombie element, the film also focuses on exploiting the collapse of social order and human survival instincts when completely isolated.
Besides Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook, "Colony" also features Shin Hyun Bin, Kim Shin Rok, Koo Kyo Hwan and Go Soo. The cast is considered one of the factors contributing to helping the film quickly gain attention at the Korean box office.
Along with Korea, "Colony" is expected to continue to be released in many international markets. In Vietnam, the film is expected to premiere in June.
