On January 2, Korean media reported that the script reading for the drama “The Tyrant’s Chef” has been canceled. This is a work that was announced to star YoonA (SNSD) and Park Sung Hoon.
On December 30, Park Sung Hoon shocked the world when he posted an adult film cover photo inspired by the Netflix series “Squid Game” on Instagram. The actor’s actions were heavily criticized, especially in the context of South Korea being in a 7-day national mourning period following the Jeju Air plane tragedy.
On online communities, many viewers are worried about the movie project "The Tyrant's Chef" and the female lead YoonA, because Park Sung Hoon is involved in a scandal.
Many people think that this is a romantic movie, so having an actor post 18+ photos as the main character will create a bad impression and make it difficult to reach viewers. They asked the producer to change the male lead.
When the script reading was canceled, the audience speculated that it might be due to the influence of Park Sung Hoon's scandal. However, on the afternoon of January 2, the producer quickly explained that the script reading was postponed because the whole country was in a period of national mourning.
This also indirectly denies Park Sung Hoon as the cause. However, the delayed schedule will also affect the filming progress. When the film has not officially announced the cast and started filming, unexpected things can happen.
Previously, when the incident first broke out, Park Sung Hoon's management company explained: "Park Sung Hoon received a large number of direct messages on his social media. While checking, he accidentally uploaded 18+ images. The actor himself was very shocked and felt regretful for making a mistake, especially in this situation."
But after the public protested that Instagram did not allow posting photos from messages, the company explained that Park Sung Hoon felt the photo was problematic, so he downloaded it and sent it to his manager. The photo should have been deleted immediately, but it was accidentally posted on his social media account.
Park Sung Hoon made an impression when he played the villainous supporting role in the Korean dramas “The Glory” and “Queen of Tears”. He is currently making his mark with his role as a transgender woman in “Squid Game 2”.
