On the afternoon of January 20, the press premiere of the Korean film “Dark Nuns” took place in Seoul. The event was attended by director Kwon Hyuk Jae and actors Song Hye Kyo, Jeon Yeo Been, Lee Jin Wook, and Moon Woo Jin.
"Dark Nuns" is a female version of the 2015 blockbuster film "The Priests." The film tells the story of nuns who perform a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit.
In the film, Song Hye Kyo plays Sister Junia, a nun who is willing to do anything, even using forbidden methods, to save a boy in danger.
Sharing about the film that marks her return to the big screen after 11 years, Song Hye Kyo said: “This is a work that I have put a lot of effort and effort into promoting. I am very worried and pressured because there are many people looking forward to it. But I also feel excited and hope that you will love the film.”
Song Hye Kyo's nun role this time is different from the usual nun image. Junia smokes and speaks rudely.
Regarding the process of "transforming" into the character, Song Hye Kyo confessed: "This is the first time I've played a smoker in a movie. I was quite nervous because I'm not a smoker. I know this is not good, but when considering the character of Sister Junia, smoking was a necessary scene.
The first scene of the film is Sister Junia smoking, and it was shot close up, so I didn't want to fake it. So, during the preparation for filming, I practiced acting and smoking. I practiced for 6 months before filming started."
Song Hye Kyo also shared the story of why she chose this work to return to the big screen.
The actress said: “This is a work that I have a connection with. After completing “The Glory”, I don’t want to return to a love story again.
I mainly look at new scripts based on genre. After reading the script for "Dark Nuns", I was curious if I could show new aspects of myself that I had never known before through this project. Although it would be a difficult and challenging project.
That's why I chose this one. I'm good at watching scary things, and my mom also likes horror movies and mysteries, so we watch the same movie a lot together."
