The January 8 broadcast of tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” is attracting attention with actress Song Hye Kyo’s appearance on a variety show. This is her first appearance on a variety show in 23 years.
Talking to MCs Yoo Jae Suk and Jo Se Ho, Song Hye Kyo recalled her journey into the entertainment industry as a teenager, after winning a school uniform contest and becoming widely famous at the age of 20 through the hit drama “Autumn in My Heart.”
After that success, she dominated TV ratings in her 20s with famous TV series such as "One for All", "Hotel Manager", "Full House"...
She admitted that she did not feel much anxiety during that time and shared calmly: “I did not worry about my projects failing. I even spent a lot of time having fun.
Sometimes I feel annoyed because I have to work when I just want to hang out with my friends. I often think about doing something for fun after I finish work.”
The actress also reflected on the moments when she made decisions that she now regrets. Song Hye Kyo explained, “There were times when I turned down projects just because I thought I should play a serious character after playing a comedic role.
Maybe I don't need to think too much about it, I should do everything. Sometimes I feel regretful and wonder: Why am I so picky when my acting range is not even that wide?
Known for her wide network in the industry and her high regard among her peers, Song Hye Kyo shared: “People often say I’m funnier than they expect and others should know how funny I am. But I don’t think I’m funny, I just react to situations and somehow people find it funny.”
Despite her calm appearance and now successful stardom, Song Hye Kyo's career has not been without its challenges.
“Since I started working at a very young age, there have been countless big and small rumors about me. Because of my job, I try to let them go in one ear and out the other, but sometimes it becomes too much to bear,” she revealed.
She recalls when asked about the rumors in interviews and how she handled them: “I would tell them: I don't even know about that story. You should ask the person who made it up.
Honestly, I've been criticized so much that I'm used to it now. It's okay when they do it to me, but when the malicious comments are directed at my family, it really hurts me."
On how to overcome difficult times, the actress expressed: “At that time, I often contacted screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung. She advised me: “You need to know how to love yourself before you can love the people around you. And you can see a better world.”
But how do I love myself first? I don't even know how to do that.”
After that, Song Hye Kyo followed the instructions of screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung. In the morning, she wrote down her plans and goals for the day. In the evening, she wrote down 10 things she was grateful for that day.
“It ended last year, but I did it every day for five years,” the actress said. Now, Song Hye Kyo has learned to love herself.
