MBC has just released some teaser images for episode 9 of the drama “When the phone rings” which will air on the evening of December 27.
“When the Phone Rings” is adapted from a popular web novel, telling the story of Baek Sa Eon (Yoo Yeon Seok) and Hong Hee Joo (Chae Soo Bin), a couple who got married through family arrangements, but their cold relationship begins to change after a threatening phone call.
In the previous episode (episode 8), Baek Sa Eon received a text message from a man named Jung Sang Hoon at a fishing tackle shop (possibly his adoptive father), saying, “He’s alive.” Sa Eon rushed to the shop but found the man unconscious in a sea of flames.
While trying to rescue Sang Hoon, an explosion knocks Se Eon unconscious as well. At the same time, Hee Joo learns from her half-sister Hong In Ah (Han Jae Yi) that Sa Eon is not the biological child of the Baek family.
New stills from episode 9 show a tense encounter between Hee Joo and her husband's family - father-in-law Baek Eui Yong (Yoo Seong Ju) and mother-in-law Shim Kyu Jin (Chu Sang Mi).
Worried after losing contact with Sa Eon, Hee Joo visits her in-laws in the middle of the night. She asks them to do something, leaving Eui Yong and Kyu Jin shocked by her daughter-in-law's sudden behavior.
Previously, Hee Joo had always been a resigned and patient girl in the face of all family arrangements, even having to listen to her mother pretending to be mute since she was a child. Therefore, Hee Joo's resolute expression in front of her in-laws hinted at an important decision, raising curiosity about what action she would take.
Meanwhile, upon hearing the news of Sa Eon's accident, Hee Joo rushes to the hospital. Heartbroken over Sa Eon's critical condition, she cries and clings to his hand, praying for his quick recovery.
In the trailer for episode 9, Hee Joo said that she doesn't care what Baek Se Eon's true identity is. She also showed strength and determination when she affirmed: "Now it's my turn to protect you, Baek Se Eon."
Episode 9 of “When the Phone Rings” will air on MBC at 9:50 p.m. on December 27 (Korean time) and will be released simultaneously on Netflix. Episode 10 will air on December 28.
The film has 12 episodes, expected to end on January 4, 2025.
