On August 7, Yonhap News reported, the Yongsan Police Station (Seoul) is currently investigating K-pop star Suga, a member of the group BTS, for violating the Road Traffic Law (driving under the influence of alcohol).
According to the police, Suga was found to have fallen alone while operating an electric scooter in the Yongsan district in a state of drunk driving.
A nearby police officer stated that when he arrived to assist Suga, he detected the smell of alcohol and took Suga to a nearby police station.
According to the results of the police breath test, Suga's blood alcohol level was confirmed to be above the permissible limit (0.08%) and his driver's license was revoked.
Following the news, Big Hit Music, the management company of BTS, released a statement regarding this issue.
The company stated: “We would like to offer our apologies for the incident involving BTS member Suga.
Suga was wearing a helmet and riding an electric scooter while returning home in a state of intoxication on August 6. He fell after parking his scooter after traveling approximately 500 meters, and was also fined and had his driver's license revoked after a breath test at a nearby police station.
There were no injuries or property damage in the incident, and Suga returned home safely under police escort.
We apologize for causing disappointment due to the artist's inappropriate behavior. As a community servant, Suga will receive disciplinary action from his workplace for causing social commotion.
We will be more careful to prevent this from happening in the future”.
In the meantime, Suga is currently fulfilling his military service obligation. Suga entered the Nonsan Training Center in South Chungcheong Province in March last year to receive basic military training, and is currently serving as a social worker.
He is the only member of BTS assigned to serve as a social worker, and Suga's discharge date is expected to be June 2025.
