Sharing at the press conference introducing the programs at the 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival on the afternoon of June 3, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said, "Asian Film Festival Da Nang has become a destination after 2 times of organization, a bridge for exchange, and at the same time honors Vietnamese and international filmmakers. This is an active activity to promote the development of Vietnam's film industry".
Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong assessed that the Da Nang Asian Film Festival plays an important role in the context of the cultural industry being promoted in Vietnam. The screening of outstanding films from all over the world helps the audience better understand different cultures, thereby connecting more ethnic groups between countries.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City highly appreciated the role of the 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF III) in spreading the image of Da Nang in particular and Vietnam in general to international friends, contributing to promoting tourism.
Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - President of the Vietnam Cinema Development Promotion Association - a unit in collaboration with the People's Committee of Da Nang City to organize DANAFF sessions, hopes that the programs of the Film Festival will contribute to training, discovering and developing more talents for Vietnamese cinema.
This year, DANAFF has made outstanding progress in terms of scale, organization time and program content.
From 5 days of official activities in the previous 2 seasons, DANAFF III increased the official time of the film festival to 7 days. The total number of films selected for the programs in DANAFF III is more than 100 (compared to 46 films of DANAFF I and 63 films of DANAFF II); the number of film screenings increased to about 200 (compared to 100 shows of the previous season).
In particular, the content of this year's program has been expanded with many new highlights, notably the launch of the "Asian Cinema landscape" program - selecting outstanding and successful Asian films at international film festivals in the past year, along with films selected by DANAFF for first screening.
This year also marks the appearance of the Asian Film Critic Award in the Asian Cinema Overview program.
Within the framework of DANA 3, many diverse events and activities will take place such as training and development activities for film projects for young talents "DANAFF Promising Talent"; Workshop "Growing Talent" in acting, "Project Incubator" and Master Class for filmmakers.
The film crew groups will be advised by prestigious international experts such as Mr. Christian Jeune - Director of the Film Selection Department, Vice President of the Cannes Film Festival; Mr. Kim Min Young - producer of the film "Ghost Tomb"; Ms. Isabelle Glachant - producer of many films by Vuong Tieu Soi...
As one of the key programs of DANAFF III, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification, the selection film screening program "H half a century of Vietnamese films about war" was organized in coordination with the Vietnam Film Institute, to introduce 22 outstanding works, bringing a multidimensional cinematic perspective on war. ANAFF III will show theaters a selection of films about war, produced after 1975, which are works that have been awarded awards at the Vietnam Film Festival or International Film Festivals, many of which are loved by Vietnamese audiences.
Through selected films on the theme of war, Vietnamese and international delegates, filmmakers and audiences will feel the new perspective, thinking, and expression of filmmakers in the 50 years since the day of national reunification compared to films produced during the war.
In the DANAFF III Cinema Scenes program, Korea is the selected and introduced country - representing a cinema industry with great influence in the region, having gone through many ups and downs before rising strongly on the world cinema map.
The Organizing Committee of the Film Festival has cooperated with the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam, the Korean Cinema Committee (KOFIC), the Korean Film Film Institute (KOFA) selected and introduced 14 typical works, produced from the 1960s and 20th centuries until now through the program "The imprints of Korean cinema over time".
Following DANAFF II, this year's Film Achievement Awards will honor an outstanding Asian filmmaker who has made many contributions to the development of cinema.
In addition to new points, DANAFF III continues to maintain activities that have become a mark in previous seasons, such as 2 film categories including 14 films in the Asian Film category competing and 12 films in the Vietnamese Film category competing; the program "Vietnam Cinema Today" with 18 newly produced Vietnamese films in the past year.
