Singer and actress IU (Lee Ji Eun) has just concluded her first world tour, titled “HEREH World Tour 2024”, with the final two shows on September 21-22 in Korea.
According to Sports Chosun, IU made history by becoming the first female Kpop solo artist to hold a concert at the largest capacity stadium in Korea, World Cup Seoul (also known as Sangam Stadium).
The stadium has a seating capacity of just over 66,000. Only a few solo K-pop group shows have ever been held here, including Seo Taiji and Boys, Big Bang, and Seventeen.
IU is the first female singer to enter Sangam Stadium, and the third solo artist to perform at this large venue, after G-Dragon and Lim Young Woong.
Previously, in 2022, IU also became the first female Kpop solo artist to enter the Jamsil Olympic Stadium, with the concert “The Golden Hour: Under the Orange Sun”. The Jamsil Olympic Stadium has a capacity second only to Sangam Stadium. At the age of 31, IU has conquered the two largest stadiums in Korea.
The September 22 concert also has special meaning because it is the 100th concert of IU's career.
At the concert, IU surprised fans by debuting her new song "Bye Summer" and performing more than 20 other songs.
Notably, IU's 2 shows became the focus of media attention with many artists attending for 2 days.
Fans listed nearly 50 people present, including prominent faces such as G-Dragon (Big Bang), V and J-Hope (BTS), Chaewon and Sakura (LE SSERAFIM), Doyoung and Johnny (NCT), Kyuhyun (Super Junior), D.O (EXO), Lee Joo Young, Ko So Young... and IU's boyfriend - Lee Jong Suk.
G-Dragon caused a stir when he posted a photo with IU backstage at a concert. The Big Bang leader and IU have an extremely close relationship. At G-Dragon's show at Sangam Stadium in 2017, IU was a guest artist and performed the song "Palette" with him.
BTS’s V also caused a stir on social media when he posted a behind-the-scenes photo with IU. Despite being on military duty, V took time off to support IU’s concert, who collaborated with him on the song “Love Wins All”.
Korean audiences responded very positively to the two concerts and agreed that IU is the number 1 female solo singer in Korea at the moment.
