Blackpink goes into military service
In October 2020, Blackpink released their first studio album, The Album, with two hits How You Like That, and Lovesick Girls,. Since then, only Rose and Lisa have been solo without adding any full-length music products.
Allkpop reflected in the post on March 29, in fact, Blackpink has had a long hiatus between comebacks, causing their fans to wait months, even years.
Therefore, many members of Blink (Blackpink's fandom name) in the online community have expressed dissatisfaction and complained about the long time Blackpink has stopped working as a group.
Idol Issue media channel shared an article showing that Blackpink's hiatus time is equivalent to the time the male idols performed their military service.
Idol Issue statistics show that Blackpink has only released 23 music products during their 7 years of operation and has not returned for more than a year. While many boy bands were interrupted because their members had to do military service, Blackpink was a wasteland for that precious time.
In the last months of 2021 and early 2022, every time Blackpink appeared in the press, it was information related to the fact that they participated in fashion shows, becoming the representative face of luxury brands. Or Jisoo plays the female lead in Snowdrop for the first time with Jung Hae In.
The 4 members became global ambassadors of 4 famous French brands. Lisa is the "muse" of Celine, Rose represents Saint Laurent, Jisoo covers Dior's events and Jennie is busy promoting Chanel.
On Allkpop, the audience commented: Blackpink is very talented but it seems they are more interested in becoming an influential person than a real artist. It's a pity that recently, they've only been covering as promotional models without any music-related activities, I almost forgot that Blackpink is an idol group.
Blink also reacted strongly to management company YG Entertainment. Blackpink fans complained, YG is using the appearances of these girls to make money in the true sense and shaking their talents, YG only cares about money and clearly they earn more money from fashion events as well as fan support...
The audience even pointed out that Blackpink did not release any music, but YG continued to sell to "collect money" from fans. Typically, the 2022-2022 holiday photo series in the classic style of Blackpink or the Korean learning documentary series called Blackpink in Your Korean collaborated with Hybe - BTS's management company.
Risk of disbandment
It is hard to believe that the prospect of the hottest girl group in Kpop breaking up is on the cards, but this is something many Blackpink fans are worried about.
An analyst said that the contract term that Kpop idols sign with management companies usually lasts 7 years. Therefore, if they do not release music, Blackpink is likely to disband because there is only 1 more year left to expire.
It would be funny if they dont release a new song or show any signs of returning for 15 months until the contract is over. Its crazy that YG makes their artists dreamlike and sanctified by not coming back for years, one viewer exclaimed.
Some opinions also pointed out the risk that Blackpink will repeat 2NE1's sad disbandment event: "This is exactly what happened to 2NE1 at their peak. YG has turned them into models and brand ambassadors because in that way, profits are higher. I love YG groups, but unfortunately they don't have many opportunities to show their music and talent."
In addition, some other audiences commented that if they returned, Blackpink needed to change their color. Because, Blackpinks music is starting to repeat itself because of the same producer, Blackpink is too dependent on Teddy.
While many people are interested in online music thanks to the pandemic, Blackpink can take advantage of online platforms to maintain music activities. But rather than promoting a group that is already famous and successful, YG thinks about forming new groups.
