More than a million 12th grade candidates nationwide are preparing to enter the 2025 high school graduation exam. In addition to the pressure of reviewing, many students are wondering about choosing the right major for themselves.
Pham Kim Anh - a 12th grade student at Le Quy Don High School (Hanoi) shared: "Everyone in my family wants me to take the pedagogical exam to become a teacher because they think that when I graduate, I will have a stable job. But he loves Graphic Design, likes drawing, and loves creativity, even though his parents say that studying that major is very unstable, fiercely competitive, and it is difficult to find a job after graduation. I am very confused, not knowing whether to listen to my parents or determined to pursue my passion".
Not only Kim Anh, many other candidates are also in a state of confusion and wonder when choosing the right career. On learning forums, social networks, and "hot" career rankings are flooded with information about Invisibly high salaries, creating pressure for candidates. Many students admit that they have felt worried and scared if they chose a major that was not in the right "trend", afraid of being criticized as falling behind, afraid of graduating unemployed.
The pressure to choose a career today does not only come from students themselves, but also from their families. Parents with good wishes for their children often want them to choose subjects considered stable, even if they do not fully understand their children's true passion or abilities. Many candidates confess that they choose the industry because they please their parents, listen to advice from relatives and friends, or because they find that industry "hot".
Le Huong Giang - a 12th grade student at Han Thuyen High School (Bac Ninh) said: "I love studying Literature, dream of becoming an editor, a content creator, but my family told me to study majors related to the economic field to have a bright future".
Sharing with candidates, Dr. Le Danh Quang - Vice Principal of Hanoi College of High Technology - said that choosing a major should be based on three factors: Capacity, personal preferences and needs of the labor market. This person advised candidates to consider choosing majors that are suitable for their interests and passions, while following trends to meet the urgent needs of society.
"C must spend time self-assessing their interests and abilities, while carefully researching information about the profession and labor market. Not only listen to information from social networks and relatives, but proactively consult experts, employers or former students in that industry. The practical experience through internships and extracurricular activities also helps students better understand the industry" - Dr. Le Danh Quang said.
After determining the appropriate major, the next step is to carefully research the training institutions to consider the quality of teaching, the reputation of the school, the ability to meet learning capacity and financial conditions of one's self to make a final choice.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoa - Head of the Department of Testing and Training Quality Assurance, University of Transport noted that candidates, each major often has many schools with different benchmark scores. If the major they love is at a school with a high benchmark score, candidates can consider other schools that are trained in the same major but have a lower score, suitable for their abilities
