The information was shared by Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan - Head of the Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry at the 2025 Admissions Wishing Festival held at the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City on July 19.
At the event, many students and parents wondered how to arrange their wishes appropriately, as well as how to choose a major or school to increase their chances of being admitted.
Responding to this question in general, Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan said that the first thing candidates and parents need to pay attention to is whether the major or school they are studying at is truly appreciative.
He advised candidates to register their wishes for their favorite major. However, when setting wishes, it is necessary to reasonably allocate between high - medium - low wishes, that is, between majors with high, average and slightly lower benchmark scores than their exam scores to increase the chance of admission.
"Of course, everyone wants to choose their favorite major and school. But this year the admission score is very unpredictable and may fluctuate. If you only set your wishes according to your preferences but not according to your abilities, it is easy to fail.
If your score is around 22-23, but you register for the entire industry with the standard score of 27-28 last year, it will be very difficult to pass. Choose majors with scores close to you, closely monitor the fluctuations in benchmark scores in recent years to consider," said Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan.
He gave an example, some candidates set 60-70 wishes, but when asked again, they could not distinguish between which major they liked the most and which major was more suitable. This leads to the possibility of being admitted to the industry not being really desired.
In addition, registering too many unnecessary wishes also costs money, which is uncertain to improve the ability to be admitted if the choice is not wise.
Another risk he warned candidates was not being able to control the priority order, leading to less favorite admissions to majors even with better admission scores.
"There are students who have enough points to enter a major that I love, but because the arrangement of voluntary wishes is unreasonable, they are not considered for admission to that major," Mr. Nhan shared.
According to the plan of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates must register their wishes for admission to the system (unlimited number of wishes) before 5:00 p.m. on July 28.
From July 29 to 5:00 p.m. on August 5, candidates pay the admission fee online on the system.
Training institutions announced that candidates will be admitted in the first round from 5:00 p.m. on August 22. Candidates confirm to enroll in the first round of online education on the system from 5:00 p.m. on August 30. Training institutions (still have quotas) announce additional admission from September 1.
