On the morning of October 22, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) announced the results of the verification of the diploma of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet (Venerable Thich Chan Quang).
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry has reviewed the training process and coordinated with relevant agencies to verify Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's qualifications according to a thorough, careful process, in accordance with legal regulations.
The results determined that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet had used his secondary school diploma illegally. Mr. Vuong Tan Viet also admitted that he had used his secondary school diploma illegally.
The Ministry of Education and Training has requested relevant higher education institutions to urgently revoke the diploma granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet according to the law, and at the same time review the training organization process to avoid similar cases.
Immediately after receiving information from the Ministry of Education and Training, relevant universities initiated procedures to revoke the degree of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet (Venerable Thich Chan Quang).
Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Vice Principal of Hanoi University - said that the school is currently carrying out procedures to revoke the bachelor's degree in English from the Distance Learning program granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet.
Previously, Hanoi Law University said that if there is an official conclusion that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's high school diploma is fake, the school will follow the conclusion and direction of the competent authority to handle Mr. Viet's bachelor's and doctoral degrees granted by the school.
According to Hanoi Law University, before applying for a PhD, Mr. Vuong Tan Viet graduated with a bachelor's degree in English in 2001 from the University of Foreign Languages (now Hanoi University); and graduated with a bachelor's degree in law in 2019 from Hanoi Law University (second degree, part-time program).
Regarding doctoral training, PhD student Vuong Tan Viet completed the training program. On December 9, 2021, the PhD student successfully defended his thesis at the university level; on March 17, 2022, the PhD student was awarded a doctoral degree.
In addition to the above degrees, Mr. Vuong Tan Viet is currently a research student, pursuing a doctoral program at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi).
According to the school, Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's application file includes all documents required by the admission notice, including: Bachelor's degree in law from Hanoi Law University granted in 2019 (with transcript) notarized; Bachelor's degree in English from Hanoi University, Distance learning system, 2001 (copy from the original certified by the Rector of Hanoi University); Doctorate degree in law from Hanoi Law University granted in 2022 (with transcript of additional courses of the master's training program) notarized.
Under current regulations, any advanced degree of an individual will be revoked or annulled if their high school diploma is invalid, even if the advanced study process has been carried out properly.
