Ho Chi Minh City National University reduces admission methods in 2025

In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University agreed to reduce university admission methods to only 3 methods.

The information was given by Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan - Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University at the "Conference to summarize university and college enrollment work in 2024 and directions from 2025", on October 6.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan, in 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University has agreed to implement 3 university admission methods: Direct admission; Admission based on the results of the Competency Assessment Test organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University; Admission based on high school exam results.

At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City National University encourages units to develop combined admission methods.

Ho Chi Minh City National University identifies key areas to focus on in training and enrollment, including: Semiconductor Technology, Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence, and interdisciplinary and inter-school training programs.

In addition, Ho Chi Minh City National University will determine the threshold to ensure common input quality throughout the system, and units will be autonomous in determining and selecting admission criteria and implementation methods appropriate to their training majors.

According to the report, in 2024, the actual number of confirmed candidates for admission to the entire Ho Chi Minh City National University was 23,184, reaching 95.79% of the total target, slightly down from 2023 (96.72%).

In which, Direct admission, priority admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, Priority admission according to the regulations of Ho Chi Minh City National University (1.58%); Priority admission according to the regulations of Ho Chi Minh City National University (8.95%); Admission based on the results of the capacity assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University (38.11%); Admission based on the results of high school exam (42.71%); Other admission methods at the unit (4.45%).

Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science and Information Technology are the fields with the highest entrance scores at Ho Chi Minh City National University according to the admission method of considering the results of the Competency Assessment exam.

Ho Chi Minh City National University said it will propose to competent authorities to reduce university admission methods and only announce university admission results after high school exam scores are available from 2025.
