Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) said that the Department is studying the implementation of the geographic information system (Geographic Information System - GIS digital map), expected to be applied for the 2026-2027 school year.
According to Mr. Cuong, this will help calculate the distance from home to school, creating more favorable conditions for students and parents to travel. At that time, students will be divided into enrollment routes according to the positioning system of the digital map.
"Through the location system, students can actually live near any school and study at that school. Thus, students will be able to study near their home instead of dividing the enrollment route according to the ward as at present. This will help reduce the burden on families, students and teachers" - Mr. Tran The Cuong said.
The leader of the Department of Education and Training also said that in the 2025-2026 school year, Hanoi will have more schools built, contributing to improving facilities and increasing the number of classes. This will create a favorable premise for implementing a new admission method in the following year.
In the 2024-2025 school year, about 127,000 grade 9 students in the city are expected to participate in the recognition of junior high school graduation and register to enroll in grade 10.
According to statistics, about 64% of these students will be admitted to public high schools, an increase of 3% compared to the previous year. This is also the first batch of students studying under the 2018 General Education Program.
Regarding this year's enrollment, Mr. Cuong said that the basics will remain the same as last year. Hanoi continues to promote digital transformation in education, deploying online enrollment for all primary school students to limit the situation of parents lining up to register as before.
Particularly for high-quality schools or those with more than the target number of applications, the Department has issued specific instructions. Schools will consider admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, which can combine assessing students' abilities through articles, interviews or Q&A.
