The first round of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam is approaching, so studying and reviewing to prepare for this exam has become more thorough.
Bui Quang Huy, a 12th grade student in District 1, said that he plans to use the results of the competency assessment test to register for admission to the Accounting major of the University of Economics and Law and Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics.
"I learned that these two schools both use the results of their ability assessment for admission, so I registered for the exam, and if I take both the ability assessment exam and high school graduation exam at the same time, my admission possibility will be higher," Quang Huy shared.
According to the male student, to prepare for this exam, he has recently attended extra online classes with 3 sessions per week.
Also registered to participate in the first round of the competency assessment exam, Nguyen Ngoc Lan Anh, a 12th grade student in District 1, expressed concern.
Lan Anh said that this is the first year that students have studied and graduated under the new education program and before that, VNU-HCM announced the structure of the sample exam.
"According to the sample exam, I find the exam spread across many subjects, so it will be difficult for me to get high scores. I am focusing on studying Math, Physics, Chemistry. Therefore, I will have trouble with questions related to History, Geography..." Lan Anh said.
Lan Anh plans to use the results of the competency assessment test to apply for admission to the Human Resources Administration major at training schools in this major in Ho Chi Minh City.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thien Phuc - Vice Principal of the University of Technology (VNU-HCM) said that taking additional exams outside of the high school graduation exam is necessary for candidates.
However, he said that candidates need to consider and see which profession or school they love, then find out which industry or school they are admitted to and register to participate in to meet the requirements of the schools.
The first round of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam will have about 130,000 candidates taking the exam, taking place on March 30 in 25 provinces and cities.
It is expected that the results of the first round will be announced to candidates on April 16.
This year's Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment test consists of 120 questions. In which, the Logic - Data Analysis and problem Solving section is restructured into the Scientific Thinking section, with 30 multiple-choice questions. The Language Use (Vietnamese and English) and Mathematics sections have increased the number of questions to 60 and 30 questions, respectively.
Candidates have a total test time of 150 minutes. The maximum score of the test is 1,200 points, each question has a different weight depending on the difficulty, in which the Language Use section is 600 points; Mathematics is 300 points and Scientific Thinking is 300 points.
VNU-HCM said that the results of the 2025 competency assessment exam will have 100 schools using them for admission, including 8 member schools of Ho Chi Minh City National University, 83 other universities and 9 colleges.
