According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich - Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, the province currently has 7 border communes bordering Cambodia, including: Ia Tach, Ia Mo, Ia O, Ia Chia, Ia Pon, Ia Nan, Ia Dom.
In these 7 communes, there are a total of 21 schools at all levels of education, but most of them do not have boarding or semi-boarding functions. Schools do not have housing for students; teachers' rooms have degraded and appeared damaged.
Currently, there are more than 10,300 students studying in border communes, of which 7,134 students have the need to study as boarding students or semi-boarding students. Communes also assess the model of boarding schools as suitable for actual conditions, when the majority of students are children of ethnic minorities, parents often go to work in the fields, and do not have the conditions to pick up or take care of their children's lunch.
According to Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan, the Central Government plans to allocate 150 billion VND to each border commune to build schools, public housing, and agency headquarters. This is an urgent task that needs to be implemented soon so that students can enjoy new learning conditions from the 2026 school year.
Mr. Tuan requested border communes to urgently study and adjust the planning of the central core area, including functional areas. Organize surveys and assess the current facilities of schools in the area to develop investment and expansion plans suitable to actual needs.
In addition to classrooms, the plan needs to fully arrange boarding areas for students, public housing for teachers and common entertainment and living areas. Choosing a construction location must ensure safety, avoiding areas at risk of natural disasters such as landslides and flash floods.
Departments, branches and 7 border communes urgently implement it from July 20, at the same time, complete the report on local planning adjustment, send it to the province before August 15 for consideration and implementation of the next steps. The implementation viewpoint is that schools must meet standards, have boarding areas for students to study on a 2-session basis, and be able to stay and have free lunch at school.
