The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has just issued a decision to cancel the first prize results of the national science and technology research competition for junior high school and high school students in 2024 - 2025.
According to the decision, the Ministry of Education and Training canceled the first prize results and revoked the prize and certificate of prize of the project "Smart waste classification system integrated with artificial intelligence and sound sensors", subsidy system field, unit competing with the Department of Education and Training of Hung Yen province.

The Ministry of Education and Training requires the Department of Education and Training of Hung Yen province to be responsible for strictly handling collectives and individuals who violate current regulations and report to the Ministry of Education and Training before April 30.
The decision of the Ministry of Education and Training did not give a reason for canceling the results.
Previously, at the end of March, the science and technology project "Smart waste classification system integrated with artificial intelligence and sound sensors" of a group of two students from Nguyen Sieu High School (Hung Yen) was awarded the first prize in the National Science and Technology Competition for the 2024 - 2025 school year.
However, many opinions reflect that this project is similar to a waste classification product by engineer Samuel Alexander in Indonesia. Alexander's product was announced in 2023 on the Hackaday.io community - an online sharing platform for manufacturers, inventors, and technology enthusiasts.
According to the reflection, at least three important images in the poster of the group of students match Samuel's original photo, including an electrical circuit diagram, frequency chart and equipment structure.
In principle, both models use sound sensors and AI to classify waste - a rare approach today.
Industry experts say the two models are correct, only different in the level of technical improvement.
