The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued Decision No. 2045/QĐ-BGDĐT, which regulates the Framework of the School Year Schedule for the 2024-2025 academic year for preschool education, general education, and continuing education.
Accordingly, the MOET issued the framework of the school year schedule for the 2024-2025 academic year for preschool education, general education, and continuing education, which will be applied nationwide as follows:
Students are allowed to start school at least one week before the opening day. Specifically, students in grade 1 are allowed to start school at least two weeks before the opening day.
The opening day is scheduled for September 5, 2024.
The first semester will end before January 18, 2025, and the academic year will end before May 31, 2025.
The recognition of completion of primary education and the recognition of high school graduation will be conducted before June 30, 2025.
The enrollment of new students in primary and secondary schools will be completed before July 31, 2025.
The 2025 high school graduation exam is expected to take place on June 26 and 27, 2025.
Other national-level exams will be organized in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the MOET.
Regarding the principle of building the school year schedule of localities, the MOET stipulates that the school year schedule of localities must ensure at least 35 weeks of actual learning (18 weeks for the first semester and 17 weeks for the second semester). The school year schedule must be consistent with the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality.
Holidays and festivals will be implemented in accordance with the Labor Code and annual guiding documents. The time for teachers' annual leave will be implemented during the summer break or can be arranged alternately at other times of the year to suit the specific characteristics and school year schedule of the locality.
The school year schedule must ensure synchronization for all levels of education on a residential area, especially in general schools with multiple levels.
Regarding the responsibility for implementation, the Chairman of the People's Committee of the province or city directly under the central government decides:
The school year schedule for preschool education, general education, and continuing education, which is consistent with the practical conditions of the locality. The time for early school start and the extended school year will not exceed 15 days to ensure the implementation and completion of preschool education, general education, and continuing education in the event of natural disasters, epidemics; in the case of special circumstances, a report must be submitted to the MOET before implementation.
The Director of the Department of Education and Training decides to allow students to take a break in the event of extreme weather, natural disasters, and arranges for make-up classes; ensures the time for teachers' leave during the school year. Reports to the MOET on:
The situation of preparing for the new school year and the situation of organizing the opening of the new school year in the 2024-2025 academic year before September 10, 2024; The situation of implementing tasks and key solutions in the 2024-2025 academic year and the results of implementing competition criteria, proposing awards for the academic year before June 25, 2025.
