The information was announced by the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of September 25 at a regular press conference.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, after arranging administrative boundaries, Ho Chi Minh City recorded a significant difference in facilities conditions between areas. Some schools that have been invested in for a long time are now degraded and need to be repaired or replaced to ensure safety.
The difficulties are mainly concentrated in densely populated areas, border areas or areas with rapid urbanization, where students are facing overload.
The main missing or degraded items include: not enough classrooms to organize 2 sessions/day; functional rooms, libraries, professional rooms that do not meet standards; equipment, desks and chairs and auxiliary infrastructure at some schools are damaged and lacking.
In this situation, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has directed a general review and developed a comprehensive handling plan for facilities and teaching equipment in public schools.
The People's Committees of wards, communes and special zones are required to classify the level of damage, degradation and proactively arrange and advance the budget to immediately repair items at risk of insecurity.
Based on the review results, the Department of Education and Training will coordinate with the Department of Finance to advise the City People's Committee on long-term investment plans, including urgent repairs and new school construction in places with rapid population growth.
At the same time, the city continues to implement a plan to develop a new school network to balance the system, meeting the increasing learning needs of the people.
Also at the press conference, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City added that it is tightening collection and expenditure at the beginning of the school year.
On September 18, the Department worked with Le Ngoc Han Primary School and requested the school to immediately stop the illegal mobilization, and at the same time review all classes to avoid similar cases.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also requested local authorities to coordinate in inspecting and supervising the operating plans and revenue and expenditure estimates of educational institutions, ensuring that all revenues other than tuition fees must comply with regulations.
"From September 29, thematic inspection teams will be deployed to monitor the collection and expenditure work at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, and strictly handle violations," informed a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
