An inspiration to many
On the morning of October 16, the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province organized a ceremony to honor and award a Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to student Vo Quang Phu Duc - Champion of Olympia in the 24th year.
At the ceremony, Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong emphasized: "Achieving the laurel wreath is a very worthy achievement for Phu Duc's efforts, we are proud of him. His successes are a strong source of inspiration for other young people in the province and each person".
As for Phu Duc, regarding the fact that after the program, there was a lot of noise on social media related to the buzzer-pressing to get the right to answer the final question, Duc shared that he had read those conflicting opinions and did not feel sad at all because of those criticisms. Because he did what was right and played by the rules, there was nothing to feel guilty about.
Phu Duc confided: "On social media, people said that ringing the bell but not answering my last question was an unkind act, a trick, and not fair play. I think it's not quite right to talk about kindness or trickery at that time because it's a competition, everyone wants to get the highest result and everyone has their own strategy."
Courage
Speaking with Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Le Ho Son - Principal of Hue University of Education expressed his opinion that, firstly, in terms of the rules of the game, Phu Duc did not violate any rules of the competition. Second, in every competition, contestants learn and equip themselves with tactics so that the ultimate goal is to win in a reasonable and legal way.
Regarding the opinion that “Not knowing the correct answer but still ringing the bell to take the right to answer from another candidate is a trick”, Mr. Le Ho Son’s opinion is that such an opinion is completely unfounded. During such a stressful and pressured time, Phu Duc still focused to be the fastest to ring the bell, which is commendable. And it proves that he is a person with a very good action mindset, that is quickness and that is the strategy of the game.
“Just like in football, good coaches often read situations to analyze and make “tactical substitution” decisions to protect the most beneficial results for their team without breaking the rules. And Phu Duc is the same, he is a student who is not only good at knowledge but also good at reading situations, equipping himself with appropriate playing tactics.
In addition, if you follow the program from the beginning, everyone can see that Phu Duc convincingly leads through all 4 rounds. More importantly, this is a game for students, so don't use the mindset of adults to label them as "tricks" or "unsightly actions" but rather consider it as their bravery when facing such great pressure. Personally, I think that the 4 finalists, whoever wins, deserve to win. If any student were in Duc's situation, they would have acted like him" - Mr. Le Ho Son expressed his opinion.
