The Ministry of Education and Training announced a new draft Circular on the Regulations on High School Graduation Exams from 2025 for comments ( see draft details HERE ).
One of the new points in the draft circular is the calculation of high school graduation scores for students.
The Ministry of Education and Training plans to increase the rate of using learning assessment results in grades 10, 11 and 12 to 50% (previously 30% and only using grade 12 results) with the aim of comprehensively assessing the abilities of students studying according to the 2018 General Education Program and increasing the effectiveness of achieving many goals of the Exam as announced.
Candidates with foreign language certificates that meet the regulations are exempted from the Foreign Language exam, but it is not converted into 10 points in the graduation recognition consideration as currently regulated.
According to the plan to organize exams and consider recognizing high school graduation from 2025, to consider recognizing high school graduation, each candidate must take 2 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature and 2 subjects that the candidate chooses from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12 (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology and Technology). The 2025 high school graduation exam is expected to take place on June 26-27, 2025 with 3 exam sessions. Of which, 1 exam session is Literature, 1 exam session is Math, 1 exam session is 2 optional subjects from the subjects studied in grade 12 (referred to as optional combination).
As for the exam subjects, from 2025, it is expected to add the subjects of Information Technology and Technology (Industry, Agriculture). These are the subjects that will be held for the first time in the high school graduation exam. The exam will add some new question formats for multiple choice subjects.
Currently, graduation scores are calculated according to the formula:
High school graduation exam score = {(Total score of 4 high school graduation exams + total incentive score)/4 x 7 + average score of the whole year of grade 12 x 3}/10 + priority points.
In there:
– Total score of 4 exams including: Math + Literature + English + average score of the combined exam;
– Average score for the entire 12th grade year: Calculated by the formula (GPA of semester 1 + GPA of semester 2×2)/3;
– Priority points include: Priority points for subjects and priority points for regions.
