200 higher education institutions are recognized as meeting domestic quality standards
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, up to now, the whole country has 200 higher education institutions recognized as meeting domestic quality standards. The number of schools recognized as meeting international standards also increased from 11 to 16.

Regarding training programs, the total number of inspected programs also increased sharply, from 1,917 to 2,609 programs. Of which, the number of programs recognized as meeting domestic standards increased from 1,373 to 1,915, and according to international standards increased from 544 to 694.
The Ministry of Education and Training assessed that these figures clearly reflect the increasing interest of universities in quality assurance and accreditation.
In particular, the increase in the number of institutions and accreditation programs according to international standards shows a clear orientation of the industry in improving training quality, towards deep integration with regional and international education.
Many universities in the world rankings
Not only recognized as meeting domestic quality standards, many higher education institutions in Vietnam are also on the world rankings.
According to data published on November 6, 2024 by QS, the whole country has 6 training institutions on the QS World Ranking list (ranking of universities in the world), an increase of 1 training institution compared to 2024 and 17 schools on the QS Asia University Ranking list (ranking of universities in Asia); an increase of 2 schools compared to 2024.
Or in the WUR2025 QS ranking, 9 Vietnamese higher education institutions have been ranked in 25 majors, of which 3 higher education institutions have majors with high rankings.
Notably, in 2025, Vietnam achieved its most outstanding achievements ever with 9 higher education institutions named in the THE World University Rankings. This is also the first time that Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City Open University have been ranked, respectively in the group of 801-1000 and 1201-1500.
Of the 9 schools, 6 schools kept the same ranking compared to last year, while the remaining 3 schools were "new faces".
Many challenges to overcome
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, in addition to the achieved results, the work of ensuring and accessing the quality of higher education in the past school year still revealed some limitations.
Although many educational institutions have established specialized units to ensure quality, the operational efficiency is not uniform. Some units are still heavy in form, lacking cohesion between quality assurance work and the school's long-term development strategy.
The allocation of the number of accredited facilities and programs for accreditation is still not uniform, and the level of participation in international accreditation is still modest.
To improve the quality of higher education, the Ministry of Education and Training is synchronously implementing solutions according to the program to develop a system to ensure and accredit the quality of higher education, pedagogical colleges and vocational education in the period of 2022-2030.
Specifically, educational institutions are required to focus on strengthening the internal quality assurance system (IQA), forming a culture of quality throughout the school, promoting the assessment of facilities and programs according to domestic and international standards in conjunction with the school's long-term development strategy.
At the same time, promoting the ranking of higher education institutions as a strategic task, to enhance their position and enhance international competitiveness.
The Ministry also requires schools to strictly comply with regulations on transparency in their accountability, prepare adequate data and evaluation reports according to the Ministry's inspection criteria. From there, develop a specific improvement plan to overcome the shortcomings according to each specific standard and criterion.
In particular, new training programs (including international joint programs) will have to be inspected immediately after the first graduation course, in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Higher Education.
