According to the report of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) on primary school enrollment, this year, there are about 127,000 students graduating from grade 9. Of which, 103,456 students registered to take the exam to non-professional public high schools.
Thus, more than 23,500 Hanoi students will not take the 2025 public high school 10th grade entrance exam. The number of candidates expected to not take the exam this year is not much different from last year.
In addition to those who are directly admitted, these are often students who do not choose high school education in public schools, but choose to study a trade, study abroad, study high school in private schools, international schools, continuing education centers, etc.
In 2025, the total enrollment target for grade 10 assigned by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training to 122 public and autonomous public schools is 1,795 classes with 79,740 students, an increase of nearly 5,000 quotas compared to last year. The number of enrollment targets assigned to 77 private high schools is 27,919 students, with 635 classes.
Along with that, the Department assigned 12,080 quotas to 29 vocational education - continuing education centers with 270 classes.
This year, out of 115 non-professional public high schools, 71 schools increased their quotas compared to the 2024-2025 school year; 41 schools kept their quotas and 3 schools reduced their quotas.
According to the plan to organize the 10th grade enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, no later than May 23, the Department will announce the list of students admitted to grade 10 for direct admission.
If these students do not wish to be admitted directly, they must take the entrance exam for grade 10 public high school in the 2025-2026 school year to be admitted to the school they want to study.
The public 10th grade exam in Hanoi is scheduled to take place on June 6-9. In which, on June 6, candidates complete the exam procedures, on June 7-8, for candidates taking the general exam and on June 9, for candidates taking the specialized exam.
Candidates must take 3 subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language. In addition to English, candidates can choose any foreign language from the subjects of French, Japanese, German, and Korean to take the entrance exam to all high schools in the city while still being able to study the main foreign language, English.
The total admission score this year has been reduced from 50 to 30 due to not doubling the Math and Literature scores. In addition, the exam scores and the benchmark scores will be announced at the same time.
This year, the quota for specialized classes has increased significantly due to the establishment of two new specialized schools, Chu Van An High School for the Gifted and Son Tay High School for the Gifted. On the contrary, the mass market quota will be cut off from these two schools.
