Recently, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa and Dak Nong have announced the third exam subject in the public 10th grade entrance exam. All three localities choose English.
Notably, in 2025, Dak Nong will organize the 10th grade entrance exam for the first time after many years of conducting 10th grade admission in the form of admission (except for Nguyen Chi Thanh High School for the Gifted and N'Trang Long Ethnic Boarding High School). However, the province only applied a pilot with 11/32 public high schools in the province.
In the country, there is currently only one Ha Giang that chooses History and Geography as the third subject for admission to grade 10, instead of English. Vinh Phuc plans to organize a combined competition.
Hanoi - the locality with the largest public 10th grade entrance exam in the country - has not yet announced the third exam subject. Previously, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that it was expected to announce this exam subject at the end of March. Thus, in just a few days, parents and students in Hanoi will know the third exam subject to have more effective study plans.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training also recommends that schools and students proactively focus on reviewing knowledge exams for subjects according to the format and sample questions for subjects: Math; Literature, English, History and Geography, Natural Sciences, Information Technology, and Civic Education announced by the Department at the end of 2024. This is the basis for building a bank of questions and issuing 10th grade exam questions according to the new general education program.

According to the admission regulations announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, localities can choose the form of admission, entrance exams or combine both for the public 10th grade entrance exam. If the entrance exam is for admission, the exam consists of 3 subjects: Math, Literature is the compulsory subject and the third subject (or combined exam). The third exam subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, but cannot be chosen for one subject for more than three consecutive years.
