Ly Thanh Tien is a student awarded a graduation certificate in the April 2025 round of the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
Tien said that in high school, he had a good academic performance, ranking 35/42 in class in grades 10 and 11.
However, in a research on the profession on YouTube, Tien learned about the job of maintaining airplanes from a former student of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. From there, I determined that the Aviation Engineering major will be the major; Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology will be the next destination.
"I know my knowledge base and academic ability are not good, so I have to try very hard to compete for a ticket to the University of Science and Technology. At that time, I had a busy study schedule, always going to school from 7am to 10pm before coming home," Tien recalled.
As a result, Tien took the competency assessment exam - Ho Chi Minh City National University, achieving 885/1,200 points. Admitted to the same major in Shipbuilding - Aviation Engineering with a benchmark score of 865 points.
Sharing about his decision to study at a university, Tien said that he initially only aimed for the standard program in the field of Aviation Engineering. However, at that time, the standard program only had the simultaneous major of Environmental Engineering - Aviation. Tien quickly realized "this is an opportunity for me to learn and gain more knowledge".
Song Tien also admitted that studying at the same institution caused him to face a lot of pressure.
"I have proactively built my own study path, always trying to arrange to study as many subjects as possible in one semester. This forced him to sacrifice his time to rest, have fun and not participate in extracurricular activities.
Notably, in the second semester of year 3, I studied 21 credits, including 2 specialized projects (Aerospace and Ship). The volume of the 2 specialized projects is really large, I have to work in parallel with 2 projects, reporting work results each week," Tien said.
Tien's efforts were rewarded with worthy results when he graduated 3 semesters early. Tien said that since he first entered the school, he has determined to "study as quickly as possible" to be able to work soon, without having to depend on his family for too long.
"For me, graduating 3 semesters early is a very meaningful milestone, a testament to the determination, effort and hard work I have put in throughout my studies. The most special thing is that it makes my family and friends proud. In addition, it is also an important stepping stone, helping me to soon access the real working environment," Tien expressed.
However, Tien also told himself that success is just the beginning. I will have to continue to try to study more in the business environment and life.
Currently, Tien has been hired and taken on the position of aircraft maintenance engineer at a large domestic airline.
Associate Professor, Dr. Ly Hung Anh - Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, lecturer - commented that Tien is a rare case of graduating 3 semesters early with a score of 3.1/4.0 near good quality (3.2/4.).
To study 3 semesters beyond the school year, students themselves have to arrange their study schedule very scientifically because most specialized subjects are only open once a school year.
"Tiev is highly proactive, knows how to take advantage of summer semesters to study general subjects and spends a lot of his main time on specialized subjects. Since year 2, Tien has proactively come to see me to ask for a project. You are able to self-study, self-study and use documents in English, and find solutions to problems very well," Associate Professor, Dr. Ly Hung Anh shared.
