On the morning of June 9, information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) said that the unit had just sent a document to the Ministry of Construction about incidents related to unmanned aerial vehicles and other aircraft in the Noi Bai and Cat Bi International Airports areas.
Accordingly, on June 6-7, 2026, in the area of Noi Bai and Cat Bi International Airports, 3 flying objects suspected of being unmanned aerial vehicles and other aircraft were detected, directly affecting flight operations at the 2 airports.
According to reports from units, at Noi Bai International Airport, the number of flights affected on June 6 due to the operation of the Drone is 28 flights, of which 8 flights preparing to depart had to stop at the runway waiting point, and 20 flights to Noi Bai had to fly to wait.
On June 7, 2026, due to kite operations in the take-off area, a total of 7 flights preparing to depart had to be delayed.
At Cat Bi International Airport, there are 3 affected flights, including 1 flight preparing to depart, and 2 arrival flights having to divert to a backup airport.
Immediately after the incident occurred, implementing the Guidance on coordinating the receipt, verification of information and handling of aircraft activities in no-fly zones and restricted-fly zones of airports and airfields issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, agencies and units in Noi Bai and Cat Bi International Airports have well implemented the contents according to the Guidance.
However, according to the CAAV, the operation of the above-mentioned UAVs and kites may still be repeated, the incident leading to some flights being affected by operations and potential risks of flight safety, especially during peak flight seasons and summer vacations for students, which may increase kite and other flying objects.
Therefore, in order to improve the effectiveness of preventing, detecting and handling similar incidents, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requests the Ministry of Construction to consider sending telegrams to the People's Committees of provinces and cities with airports and relevant ministries and branches to strengthen propaganda and dissemination to the people about the provisions of the Law on People's Air Defense, Decree No. 288/2025/ND-CP dated November 5, 2025 of the Government regulating the management of unmanned aerial vehicles and other flying objects; the risk of flight unsafety due to flying objects in no-fly zones and flight restrictions of airports.
Local authorities in the airport and airport areas actively coordinate with the Airport Runway Safety Team at the Ports in coordinating, verifying and handling flying objects.
In addition, strengthen inter-sectoral coordination between functional forces in localities, airports, Airport Authority and air traffic control service providers in assessing the level of impact, deciding to temporarily suspend operations, restore operations and organize handling for situations of detecting unmanned aerial vehicles and other aircraft illegally entering the airport area.
In addition, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense direct functional units in localities to clearly identify the focal points for receiving and processing information when detecting unmanned aerial vehicles, other aircraft and flying objects operating illegally in the airport area and surrounding areas, in order to ensure quick, timely and effective handling.
At the same time, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and related agencies review the management mechanism for the import, business, transportation, carrying and use of unmanned aerial vehicles to strengthen control and limit the risk of illegal use, especially in airport areas...
