Thanh Tri Bridge has been one of the black spots of traffic congestion in Hanoi for many years.
After 18 years of operation, the bridge is currently carrying more than 121,000 vehicles/day and night, exceeding the designed traffic capacity by 8 times.
In particular, the section from Km165+500 to Km165+950 on Thanh Tri bridge is identified as a black spot for traffic accidents - according to the latest report of the Hanoi Department of Construction.

Having to cross Thanh Tri bridge every day to get to Hanoi's inner city to work, Mr. Huynh Van Manh (35 years old, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi) said that he has witnessed many consecutive accidents on the bridge, with 3-4 vehicles colliding at the same time, causing serious congestion.
"When the accident happened, the vehicles were almost stationary, unable to advance or reverse, and could not finish. There were collisions that left people stranded for hours on the bridge" - Mr. Manh shared.
Especially on bad weather days, Mr. Manh has to walk very slowly, focusing on observing to avoid unnecessary collisions.
To limit traffic accidents on Thanh Tri Bridge, the authorities have implemented many solutions such as adding speed limiters, installing speed limit signs, warning signs of danger, placing loudspeakers at both ends of the bridge and continuously monitoring traffic on the route.
According to the Hanoi Department of Construction, after many years of exploitation, many construction items on Thanh Tri Bridge such as steel rubber bridge bearings and beam bridge bearings continuously cast on the scaffolding have appeared to have swollen and cracked surfaces, and need to be repaired.

In addition to Thanh Tri Bridge, there are currently 2 black spots for traffic accidents in the city, including: the section from Km431+240 to Km431+304 on Ho Chi Minh Road and the section from Km2+200 to Km2+400 on National Highway 21A (Institute 105).
The Hanoi Department of Construction has coordinated with the Hanoi City Police and local authorities to survey the current situation, adjust traffic organization using the arrow island, and strengthen the system to ensure traffic safety.
In addition, the Department of Construction also said that there are two potential locations at risk of traffic accidents in the area, including the new Chiec bridge area (Km8+500, Provincial Road 427, Hien Giang commune, Thuong Tin district) and the gate of the Central Mental Hospital (Thuy Ung village, Hoa Binh commune, Thuong Tin district).

According to the Department of Construction, in early 2025, the city will have a total of 37 points, the road axis will be congested, including 20 transition points from 2024 and 17 points, new routes will arise in 2025 (including 5 points and 12 routes).
In the first quarter of 2025, the Department of Construction has coordinated with Hanoi City Police to conduct field inspections, assess causes and study and propose solutions, focusing on points and routes where traffic congestion arises in 2025, and at the same time arranging priority handling procedures.
To date, the Department has coordinated to handle 2/37 traffic congestion points and recorded 1 new traffic jam route.
The congestion points that have been handled include: Linh Nam - Do Muoi intersection and two ends of Me Tri overpass - Cuong Kien street. The newly arising traffic jam route is Chu Van An and Van Phuc streets (Road 70).
The Hanoi Department of Construction said that in the coming time, it will continue to coordinate with the Hanoi City Police to organize traffic, ensure safety and order, and reduce traffic congestion, especially focusing on areas with high traffic density during rush hour.
