In July 2023, the road bridge under the Duong River waterway upgrade project started construction. In September, the contractor began construction on the site.
The project starts at the old Duong bridge intersection on Ngo Gia Tu street, Long Bien district; ends at the intersection between Ha Huy Tap street and Phan Dang Luu street, Gia Lam district, about 100m downstream from the old Duong bridge.

The road bridge is 382m long, combined with cable-stayed, 18.5m wide, with clearance under the bridge of 4.75m. The approach road is 318m long, with a design speed of 80km/h, 6 motor lanes, 2 mixed lanes, and in the immediate phase, the scale will be 4 motor lanes.
The project has a total investment of nearly 590 billion VND, invested by the Railway Project Management Board, Ministry of Transport. When completed, the project will help improve traffic conditions connecting across the Duong River on the main artery north of Hanoi.
After more than 15 months of construction, the road bridge project across the Duong River has reached about 35% progress. According to the Lao Dong Newspaper's reporter at the project site in late December 2024, the contractor is completing the construction of the T5 and T4 pillars.
This is the most difficult part of the road bridge project across the Duong River because the contractor must construct in an area with complex geology, requiring high technology and construction techniques.
With the site already handed over for construction, the contractor representative said that construction will be completed in about 2 months.

The road bridge project across the Duong River needs to build 3 more piers, 2 abutments and approach roads at both ends of the bridge before completing the bridge deck, towers and cables. However, some items can only be implemented when the contractor is handed over the site by the locality.
A representative of the Railway Project Management Board (Ministry of Transport - investor) said that to implement the road bridge project across the Duong River, Long Bien district and Gia Lam district will have to reclaim a total land area of about 5 hectares.
So far, the two localities have only cleared a portion of the public land. The remaining area, which involves about 130 households, of which 110 are resettled, has not yet been cleared.

Initially, Long Bien and Gia Lam districts were expected to hand over the entire cleared land for the project by July 2025, but due to Hanoi City having to adjust and supplement the resettlement sub-project, this timeline was forced to be postponed.
According to the plan, the resettlement project will be implemented in the period of 2026-2028. With the above progress, the road bridge of the Duong River waterway upgrade project will be at least 3 years behind the approved schedule of completion in 2025.
