At around 10:00 a.m. on May 23, Hanoi experienced heavy rain with strong winds. The second floor of Yen Nghia station (Ha Dong district) was flooded with rainwater from the roof, washing away the floor. The management department had to send two staff members to be on duty to clean continuously.
By the evening of the same day, Hanoi Metro issued a notice on repairing damage at some stations on Line 2A Cat Linh - Ha Dong.
According to Hanoi Metro, the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi to infrastructure works in September 2024, Hanoi Metro has inspected, collected statistics, developed plans and made estimates for items that need to be repaired; developed a periodic maintenance plan, and urgently repaired to overcome storms, floods and natural disasters to submit to competent authorities for approval.
During the time of submitting and approving the plan, Hanoi Metro will continue to implement measures to handle, ensure hygiene and safety for passengers at Yen Nghia station, especially during heavy rain like in the past 2 days such as: Increasing safety staff on the platform; continuously informing warnings and instructing on passengers' safety; requiring the cleaning service provider to increase hygiene forces, drying the station floor, minimizing the risk of slippery.
However, the delay in repairing and overcoming damage to infrastructure caused by natural disasters has led to negative impacts on passengers and train operations on route 2A Cat Linh - Ha Dong.
Hanoi Metro admitted that this was a delay, and has not actively coordinated with relevant units, reporting to competent authorities to take timely and effective remedial measures.
In order to quickly stop the negative effects due to rainwater affecting passengers as well as unsanitary, causing risk of slippery area of Yen Nghia station and some stairs up and down, Hanoi Metro has agreed with relevant agencies to conduct emergency repair immediately a number of items: replacing Yen Nghia station roof plates, roofs of stairs up and down at damaged railway railway lines ... Winter.
For items that require large funding sources and need approval from competent authorities, Hanoi Metro is currently actively coordinating with management agencies to implement them as soon as possible.
4 days before, passengers on the Cat Linh - Ha Dong train (afternoon from Cat Linh - Ha Dong) suddenly saw small water continuously coming from the ceiling down to the passenger car.
Some people had to use umbrellas, others moved to other locations. Hanoi Metro later issued a statement saying that the cause of the incident was an unstable drainage of air conditioners, leading to water flowing into a passenger car.
