On the evening of December 27, Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC1) announced the suspension of Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) due to bad weather.
According to HURC1, at around 5:25 p.m., heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning activated the electrical safety protection system of the entire Metro Line 1.
The Urban Railway Management Board and Urban Railway Company No. 1 have decided to temporarily suspend the train schedule, bring the trains back to the stations to ensure passenger safety, and conduct an inspection of the entire route system. Station staff promptly reassured and guided passengers to move safely.
During the initial phase of operation, the decision to stop operations and review the entire system according to the procedure is a necessary step to ensure absolute safety, even though this may cause inconvenience and delay for passengers.
After checking and confirming that the system was not abnormal, the relevant units allowed the train to operate again.
Previously, at around 6:30 p.m. on December 26, a Metro train No. 1 had a signal error and had to stop operating at Ba Son station for about 10 minutes, instead of the usual 30 seconds.

Metro Line 1 will be in commercial operation from December 22.
From December 22 to December 26, Metro Line 1 ran 940 trips, carrying nearly 467,544 passengers, reaching 255% of the plan.
Currently, people can experience Metro Line 1 for free for 30 days. From January 21, 2025, the Metro line will officially charge a fee of 6,000 to 20,000 VND/trip, depending on the distance.
Monthly passes for regular passengers cost 300,000 VND, while students only have to pay 150,000 VND. Unlimited rides for one or three days cost 40,000 VND and 90,000 VND respectively.
Approved in 2007 and started construction in 2012, Metro Line 1 is nearly 20 km long, connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with the eastern gateway. The entire line has 14 stations, including 11 elevated stations and 3 underground stations, with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND.
