A constant obsession
For many months, the lives of people along Ngo Quyen Street (formerly La Khe Ward, now Ha Dong Ward) have been completely disrupted. The construction site is littered with mud after every rain, making travel a nightmare for people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a tenant here, could not bear to take more, so she had to sadly move her belongings to another place. "I rented a house here but now I have to return it. Because in just a short time, I have fallen off my motorbike in this alley 4 times. Now I don't dare to ride a motorbike anymore, I just have to walk to the beginning of the road and call a motorbike taxi to work," Ms. Hoa said tiredly.
Not only Ms. Hoa, this frustration is shared by nearly 100 households in Cluster 1, Residential Group 5, old La Khe ward (new Ha Dong ward). In the petition, people said that the construction process revealed too many shortcomings, seriously affecting safety and daily life. The muddy, dangerous road is not only an immediate problem, but also a sign that a design option is fiercely conflicting with their real life. Many families are living in temporary conditions, worried right on their own land.
Realistic "sench" design
According to the reflection, the new road surface will be raised 1.4m to 1.45m higher than the old road surface. This leads to a series of solid houses suddenly having the risk of turning into "tunnels", with a floor one meter lower than the road surface.
The inside of my house is 70 times lower than the new road, said Mr. Trinh Quoc An, a resident living here, with a brain injury. This difference is enough to turn his house into a pond containing water every time there is heavy rain.
In response to the strong reaction of the people, the Project Management Board requested the design unit, Thuy Loi University Consulting Company Limited, to review. However, in response document No. 32/CV-TLUC, this unit still affirmed that the design plan is in accordance with the planning.
The project has been suspended for many months now. The abandoned construction site has made the already muddy road even worse with countless "potholes" appearing. The suffering of the people has therefore increased, when the worry of houses becoming basements has not been resolved, they have to face a dangerous road every day.
