Will spend 865 billion VND to build new Phong Chau bridge

According to information from the Office of the Government, Phong Chau bridge (Phu Tho province) will be rebuilt with an estimated cost of 865 billion VND.

On September 30, 2024, the Office of the Government issued Document No. 7002/VPCP-CN conveying the opinion of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on the organization of investment in the construction of the new Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C connecting Tam Nong district with Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province.

The document stated that Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha agreed to invest in the construction of the new Phong Chau bridge according to the regulations on emergency construction works in Article 130 of the Construction Law.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha assigned the Ministry of Transport to preside over and coordinate with the Ministries of Construction, Justice, Planning and Investment, Finance and the People's Committee of Phu Tho province to advise the Prime Minister on the authorization plan as proposed by the People's Committee of Phu Tho province or assign the People's Committee of Phu Tho province to be the investment management agency in case of emergency according to the provisions of law, ensuring the completion of the project no later than 2025; report to the Prime Minister before October 5, 2024.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport to urgently propose capital from the central budget to invest in the construction of the new Phong Chau bridge, and report to the Prime Minister before October 5, 2024.

Previously, on September 9, 2024, the rising water level on the Red River collapsed the Phong Chau bridge span on National Highway 32C connecting Tam Nong district and Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province, causing great damage to people and property and disrupting traffic on National Highway 32C.

On September 20, 2024, the People's Committee of Phu Tho province issued Document 3961/UBNDCNXD reporting to the Prime Minister the results of the survey, calculation and expected investment scale of the new Phong Chau bridge.

Accordingly, the construction site of the new Phong Chau bridge is expected to be at the location of the old Phong Chau bridge (km18+300 National Highway 32C).

Regarding the design plan: The total length of the route is about 1,000m; of which: the bridge is about 393m long; the approach and connection roads are about 600m long.

The bridge structure is made of reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete, constructed using the balanced cantilever method. The total width of the bridge is 21.5 m, including: 4 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles, median strip, safety strip and bridge railing; span diagram (90+135+90)+(33+33) m. Approach and connection roads are upgraded and expanded according to the standards of a grade III plain road (design speed 80km/h).

Total expected investment: About 865 billion VND.

From 6:00 a.m. on September 30, the 249th Engineering Brigade officially opened the Phong Chau pontoon bridge connecting the two banks of the Red River in Tam Nong and Lam Thao districts (Phu Tho province).
