According to the Master Plan for Hanoi Capital Construction to 2030 and Vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, Tay Thang Long route is the main traffic axis connecting the West West Lake area and the North of Thang Long bridge with Son Tay Urban Area.
This is a route that plays a particularly important role in the socio-economic development of Tay Ho, Bac Tu Liem districts, Dan Phuong, Phuc Tho districts and Son Tay town.
According to the plan, Tay Thang Long route has a total length of more than 33km, divided into 5 sections, starting at Tay Ho and ending at Son Tay town.
According to Lao Dong, section 1 of Tay Thang Long route from Vo Chi Cong to Pham Van Dong with a length of about 2km has completed construction investment.
Section 2 from Pham Van Dong to Van Tien Dung is under construction. The section is over 3km long, 60m wide with a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND.
Construction started in 2019 and was expected to be completed in 2024, but to date only about 50% of the work has been completed.
The reason for the delay is due to many difficulties in site clearance, involving about 420 households. Currently, Bac Tu Liem district is focusing on removing obstacles, completing site clearance soon, and speeding up the project's progress.
Section 3, 3km long, from Van Tien Dung Street to the intersection of Ring Road 3.5, has been completed, accommodating 10 lanes.
Notably, in the period of 2021 - 2025, section 4 of Tay Thang Long route (from Ring Road 3.5 intersection to Dan Hoai canal road, Dan Phuong district) with a total investment of nearly 1,300 billion VND will be invested in construction.
According to the plan, the route is about 5.8km long, with a cross-section width of 40-60.5m (urban main road type), and is a vital and important road south of the Red River to connect Tay Thang Long road with Ring Road 3.5 and Ring Road 4.
When completed, the route will help connect Dan Phuong district with the city center, playing an important role in connecting and developing the western area of the capital.
The remaining section of the West Thang Long axis from Dan Hoai canal (Dan Phuong) to Son Tay town, about 20km long, has not been invested in construction.
According to the Hanoi People's Committee, the sections on the West Thang Long axis, when completed, will form a vital and smooth axis connecting the West Lake area to Son Tay town, connecting inter-regional traffic.
In addition, it also connects with the city's planned roads to reduce the load on National Highway 32, facilitating people's travel as well as promoting the capital's socio-economic development.
