On November 14, Bac Lieu province held a conference to deploy a plan to participate in the implementation of the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030 in Bac Lieu province.
According to the plan, by 2025, Bac Lieu province aims to deploy 28,000 hectares of specialized high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation areas, and by 2030, it will be 46,000 hectares. The deployment areas are in 5 key rice-growing districts and towns such as Hoa Binh, Vinh Loi, Phuoc Long, Hong Dan districts, and Gia Rai town.
In phase 1 (from 2024 - 2025), the agricultural sector will focus on reviewing and selecting areas to participate in the project, developing a registration plan, and implementing it each year. In particular, focusing on completing criteria on planning and infrastructure; sustainable farming and green growth; production organization; and participating enterprises.
In phase 2 (from 2026 - 2030), focus on activities to expand the area, invest in completing infrastructure for new areas, reorganize production, build value chains, complete the application of measurement - reporting - appraisal systems, and maintain sustainable production in areas that have achieved the goals of the Project for the period 2024 - 2025.
At the conference, delegates had many opinions and recommendations on the orientation to support the improvement of the quality of activities of cooperatives and cooperative groups participating in the project; the plan to support the establishment of community agricultural extension groups in implementing the plan; the process of producing high-quality, low-emission rice issued by the Department of Crop Production; preferential loan policies for organizations and individuals participating in the project; orientations for linking production and rice consumption associated with the project... At the same time, delegates were introduced to a number of models of high-quality rice cultivation and greenhouse gas reduction in some localities; enterprises participating in supplying agricultural input materials and consuming output products...
