According to records at retail rice stores and agents in Can Tho City, retail rice prices have increased by 1,000 - 3,000 VND/kg. Regular rice is from 15,000 - 17,000 VND/kg, Nang Hoa rice is from 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg, Dai Thom rice is from 19,700 - 22,500 VND/kg, ST25 rice is from 30,000 - 43,000 VND/kg...
According to traders, due to the impact of weather and disease, supply has decreased, transportation and labor costs have caused rice prices to continuously "dance".
Having just raised the selling price of Huong Lai rice by 800 VND/kg more than 10 days ago, Ms. Nguyen My Linh's rice shop (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) has now increased it to 1,500 VND/kg.
Ms. Linh said that after storm No. 3, rice prices increased but only by less than 1,000 VND/kg. After that, prices continued to increase, especially for fragrant rice, which currently increased by about 1,000 - 2,500 VND/kg.
"Bad weather, low rice production, so the supply has decreased, plus buyers have gone to help, so there is not much left in the warehouse. The price of rice has increased, I only dare to import a small amount because the capital outlay is high, afraid that if I continue to raise the price and sell it to customers, I will lose my business," said Ms. Linh.
At the rice shop of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong (Phong Dien district, Can Tho city), if every year, this is the time when his shop starts importing goods to stock up for Tet. However, the partner has canceled the order due to the decrease in supply.
"The quantity of goods has decreased, the partner prioritizes export contracts so there are no goods to sell to me. I deposited 140 million VND 2 weeks ago, the partner just announced to cancel and return the deposit because there is no more goods, I have to wait for the next time," said Mr. Cong.
To stabilize the market, previously, the People's Committee of Can Tho City issued an official dispatch on strengthening price management and operation and ensuring the supply of essential goods in the city.
Accordingly, the People's Committee of Can Tho City assigned relevant units to promote information work, transparency of information on prices; closely monitor market price developments, especially essential food and foodstuffs for people, prevent shortages, price speculation, and strictly handle acts of taking advantage of emergencies, incidents, disasters, natural disasters, etc.
