In recent days, the cold weather in Hai Duong has caused the price of green vegetables to increase, while the vegetable supply to the market has decreased. At a traditional market in Ngoc Chau ward (Hai Duong city), the prices of all vegetables have increased compared to normal. Some vegetables such as sweet cabbage, water spinach, chrysanthemum cabbage, cabbage, etc. all have significantly higher prices.
Cabbage is priced from 10,000 VND/fruit to 15,000 VND/fruit, cabbage is increased from 14,000 VND/kg to 20,000 VND/kg, water spinach is increased from 10,000 VND/kg to 17,000 VND/kg, water spinach is priced at 10,000 - 15,000 VND/fruit, green onions are priced at 60,000 VND/kg... The prices of herbs and herbs have also increased by about 20%. Many traders predict that if the weather continues to be cold and rainy, the price of green vegetables will increase even more strongly.
Ms. Tran Thi Lan - a trader at Do market (Ninh Giang district, Hai Duong province) said: "After Tet, people's demand for green vegetables increases. Meanwhile, the cold and rainy weather has caused difficulties in harvesting vegetables for farmers.
The weather also makes it more difficult to transport vegetables for sale. Many vegetable fields were crushed, leading to reduced supply. Therefore, vegetable prices have increased higher than normal".
At traditional markets and some supermarkets and food stores in Hai Duong, green vegetable items are no longer as diverse in types as before Tet. Instead, there are vegetables and tubers such as potatoes, squash, pumpkin, carrots, radishes, etc.
Ms. Nguyen Anh Hong (Binh Han Ward, Hai Duong City) said: "I went looking for mustard greens to eat with hotpot because the price of vegetables was too expensive, I bought 4 bunches for 60,000 VND. Not to mention buying other vegetables such as water spinach, cabbage, Chinese cabbage... In general, the amount of money spent on vegetables for my family's hotpot is up to hundreds of thousands".
According to information from traders, the price of green vegetables may continue to increase if the cold weather continues. However, vegetable prices may cool down as the weather warms and supply gradually stabilizes.
