Gasoline prices may continue to climb in the next management period

Thạch Lam |

Domestic gasoline prices may continue to climb in the next adjustment period. If the forecast is correct, this will be the fourth consecutive week of gasoline price increases.

According to a survey by Lao Dong at 7:06 p.m. on January 19 (Vietnam time), after the weekend trading session, WTI crude oil was at $77.39/barrel. Overall, WTI crude oil increased by $0.82/barrel last week, equivalent to a 1% increase compared to the previous week.

Brent crude oil is at $80.79 per barrel. Overall, last week, Brent crude oil increased by $1.03 per barrel, equivalent to an increase of 1.26% compared to the previous week.

Accordingly, world oil prices continued to increase last week, extending the increase to the fourth consecutive week.

Analysts said global energy markets were hit hard this week by sanctions against Russia and concerns about tensions in the Red Sea. Despite a ceasefire agreement between Yemen’s Houthi rebels and the United States, previous attacks have disrupted shipping, forcing ships to take longer routes around southern Africa, raising shipping costs.

Domestically, the continuous adjustment of gasoline prices reflects the upward trend of world oil prices, and is also affected by increased fuel demand during the peak season.

According to a representative of a petroleum business, domestic petroleum prices will fluctuate according to the world petroleum situation. According to current market developments, it is forecasted that in the next price adjustment period, petroleum prices will likely continue to increase sharply.

Domestic retail prices of gasoline and oil on January 18, 2025 will be applied according to the price level at the management session on the afternoon of January 16 of the Ministry of Finance - Industry and Trade.

Accordingly, E5 RON 92 gasoline increased by 319 VND/liter, not higher than 20,750 VND/liter. RON 95 gasoline price increased by 201 VND/liter, not higher than 21,220 VND/liter.

Similarly, the prices of various types of oil also increased simultaneously. Of which, diesel increased by 539 VND/liter, not higher than 19,782 VND/liter; kerosene increased by 462 VND/liter, to 19,706 VND/liter and fuel oil increased by 999 VND/kg, not higher than 17,181 VND/kg.
