According to Reuters, on March 20, the US imposed new sanctions related to Iran, targeting an independent Chinese refinery and crude oil tankers for processing facilities. China is currently Iran's largest oil importer.
This is Washington's fourth round of sanctions on Iran's oil exports since US President Donald Trump announced in February that he would restart a "maximum pressure" campaign, aiming to bring Iran's oil exports to zero. According to the report, Iran is producing more than 3 million barrels of crude oil per day.
Analysts said that this new sanction is an important catalyst, creating momentum to push up oil prices.
