World oil prices today
World oil prices fluctuated sharply. At the end of yesterday's trading session (June 8), WTI and Brent oil prices increased by 0.8% and 1.3% respectively.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities simultaneously turned down. At 7:47 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 90.89 USD/barrel, down 0.41 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.45%. Previously, WTI oil closed at 91.30 USD/barrel and opened a new trading session at 91.41 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 93.99 USD/barrel, down 0.16 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.17%. Brent oil closed the previous session at 94.15 USD/barrel and opened today's session at the same price.
According to analysts, oil prices rose in the first trading session of the week as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continued to dominate market sentiment. During the session, oil prices at one point increased by more than 5% after Israel launched new airstrikes against Iran, while fighting in Lebanon escalated, raising concerns that conflict in the region would prolong and affect global energy supplies.
However, the market cooled down after US President Donald Trump on June 8 called on Israel and Iran to "immediately stop firing". On the same day, media quoted the Iranian Ambassador to Moscow as saying that the Hormuz Strait is still operating, although traffic may have to comply with some conditions set by Iran and Oman, including toll collection.
Although Iran and Israel have announced the cessation of direct attacks on each other, Tehran has warned that it will resume airstrikes if Israel continues to attack Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, showing that the risk of renewed tension is still present.
Regarding supply, OPEC+ has just announced that it will increase production by an additional 188,000 barrels/day from July 2026, marking the fourth consecutive increase in four months. However, many experts believe that this move will not create significant changes to the actual supply, as most member countries currently have difficulty raising production to the committed level.
According to analysts, oil exploitation activities of many countries in the alliance are still affected by disruptions related to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Russia continues to face attacks by Ukrainian drones, affecting oil production capacity.
