Currently, in large unit markets in Ho Chi Minh City, the amount of goods has increased sharply, mainly focusing on items such as fruits, vegetables, meat, etc. Buying and selling activities have also become more vibrant than usual.
Ms. Hong Phuong - owner of a seafood stall at Binh Dien unit market (District 8) - shared: "This year, I have prepared goods to serve people early. Especially, from the 15th of the lunar calendar until now, the amount of goods has increased sharply thanks to restaurants and companies organizing year-end parties. We calculate carefully to import enough goods, avoiding shortages causing price fever or excess goods."
According to records, demand increased but prices of goods at unit markets were still controlled stably thanks to abundant supply.
Mr. Nguyen Dang Phu - Deputy Director of Binh Dien unit market - predicted that the peak shopping season for Tet will take place from December 20 to the 28th of Tet. During this time, the demand for vegetables and fruits may increase dramatically from the current level of 500 tons/night to 1,200 tons/night.
It is expected that the pork supply at the market will fluctuate between 300 and 450 tons each night, depending on peak demand. Mr. Phu affirmed that the market will still ensure sufficient supply.
At Hoc Mon unit market (Hoc Mon district), pork is the main product. It is expected that the supply of pigs imported to the market during Tet will double the usual number, reaching 10,000 - 11,000.
However, the high price of live pigs this year has also led to an increase in the price of pork. During the peak days of Tet, if the amount of pigs arriving from slaughterhouses is delayed due to traffic jams, pork prices may increase further. Pork purchasing power is expected to peak on December 26 and 27.
Mr. Le Hoang Phong - Deputy Director of Hoc Mon unit market, said that from December 25, the amount of vegetables and fruits imported to the market will increase by about 50%, equivalent to 3,500 tons per day.
At Thu Duc Unit Market (Thu Duc City), the amount of goods for Tet this year is considered sufficient to meet demand. Purchasing power at the present time is also showing an increasing trend.
