Coordinate with Quang Nam to increase sand supply
On May 26, the People's Council of Da Nang City (HDND) said that the supply of construction sand in Da Nang is increasingly scarce and prices have increased since the beginning of 2025, making it difficult to construct construction works in the area.
The scarcity of construction sand has affected the construction progress of key projects and construction works in general, causing difficulties for investors, project management boards and contractors. At the same time, it has caused concerns about the failure to complete the plan and progress of public investment disbursement. This will affect the city's industrial - construction growth index and growth target of over 10% in 2025.
In this situation, the Standing Committee of the City People's Council requested the City People's Committee to direct relevant departments and branches to urgently review and propose urgent solutions and long-term plans for the problem of supplying construction sand in particular and construction materials in general.
The People's Council of Da Nang City proposed to coordinate with the People's Committee of Quang Nam Province to inspect the operations of licensed sand mines in the province, and at the same time find a plan to increase exploitation capacity to stabilize the market for construction sand supply in the area.
Da Nang key project faces the risk of "frozen" due to lack of sand
Previously, according to the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic and Agricultural Works of Da Nang, many key projects using public investment capital in Da Nang are facing the risk of stagnation due to the shortage of construction sand and sudden increase in commercial concrete prices. The Management Board of the Da Nang Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project sent an urgent report to the City People's Committee on May 22, warning about this situation.
According to the report, many commercial concrete suppliers have announced temporary suspensions or increased selling prices. Specifically, Viet Han Construction and Trading Investment Joint Stock Company - Quang Nam Branch and Phuoc Yen Trade Investment Company have stopped supplying. Vinaconex 25 Company only provides limited supply with an increase of VND 120,000/m3 from May 22. Sy Kien Manh Company (Song Han concrete station) only prioritizes customers to buy in large quantities and increases prices by 20-30%.
The main reason given by the companies is the scarcity of construction sand. Sand supply has decreased sharply due to the temporary suspension of sand mines in Da Nang and Quang Nam. Sand prices have increased rapidly from 300,000 VND/m3 to nearly 700,000 VND/m3 in just two weeks.
At least four key projects have been directly affected, including: upgrading Bien Bridge; wastewater collection system in Hoa Xuan, Cam Le areas; Yen River embankment and Cu De embankment.
The project management board requested the City People's Committee to urgently direct competent agencies to intervene, check the situation of sand scarcity, control market prices and propose solutions to remove difficulties for projects.
