Allowing commercial farming for most wild animals
According to the representative of the Education for Nature Center (ENV), there are many ways to contribute to promoting economic growth, ensuring livelihoods for people without harming biodiversity.
In particular, the issuance of a List of species that can cause commercial breeding is a very feasible solution because it creates a clear legal framework for people to easily comply with and minimize difficulties and obstacles in the management of commercial breeding of wildlife.
"This will boost economic growth and address major threats to biodiversity in Vietnam. Moreover, this list is also a testament to Vietnam's commitment to preventing illegal trade of wildlife; ensuring compatible with international practices and recommendations of CITES as well as enhancing Vietnam's reputation in the sustainable use of biodiversity" - ENV representative emphasized.
The public disclosure of the "List of species capable of causing reproductive breeding for commercial purposes" will help people easily know which species are allowed and suitable for commercial farming.
Limiting and only allowing commercial farming of species whose commercial activities do not negatively impact wildlife populations in nature will ensure commercial farming activities in accordance with domestic and international laws, while minimizing over- exploitation of Vietnam's biodiversity.
The issuance of the List also reduces the administrative burden on licensing agencies and CITES Vietnam Scientific Agencies, while helping to increase the effectiveness of law enforcement and reduce State budget expenditure due to the need to focus on managing certain species that are allowed for farming.
Tightly control the impacts on biodiversity
