Mark Zuckerberg closes in on third richest person in the world

Recent data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index shows that Mark Zuckerberg increased his personal wealth by $73.4 billion by 2024, to $201 billion.

Accordingly, the CEO of Meta is the fourth richest person in the world, joining the 200 billion USD club. Currently, the 3 people ranked above Mark Zuckerberg are Elon Musk - CEO of Tesla and X (272 billion USD); Bezos - founder of Amazon (211 billion USD); and Arnault - CEO of luxury brand LVMH (207 billion USD).

Mark Zuckerberg, 40, who launched Facebook in 2004, has a large portion of his fortune tied to Meta Platforms stock. Shares of Meta (META) have risen nearly 64% in 2024. Last week on Wednesday, Meta shares rose 0.9% to close at a record high of $568.31 and fell to $567.36 on Friday.

Meta operates popular social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Threads, as well as instant messaging app WhatsApp.

Speaking at the Meta Connect 2024 event on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg said Meta AI is on track to become the most used assistant in the world.

"We've reached almost 500 million monthly active users, despite not launching in some of the larger countries yet," Zuckerberg said, referring to countries in the European Union.

Mark Zuckerberg isn't the only tech mogul to see his fortune soar this year. Oracle co-founders Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, and Larry Ellison's net worths also skyrocketed in 2024, to $62.2 billion and $58.6 billion, respectively.
