In recent days, people in Thien Nhan village (Son Tien commune, Huong Son district) have been surprised by the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi My (61 years old, residing in Thien Nhan village) who just cut the velvet pair of a male deer for a record weight of 4.12kg to sell for more than 45 million VND.
According to Ms. My, this record-heavy velvet pair of deer has been raised by her family for many years, and has gone through 7-8 velvet harvests.
Of which, the first time was about 0.6kg, the following 2 times were more than 3kg. This time, given the velvet pair with a record weight, " Sudden changes" made the family very excited.

Currently, Mrs. My's family is raising 7 deer, and each year, thanks to selling velvet on the harvest, the family has a good source of income and can spend comfortably in life.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien - Secretary of the Party Committee of Son Tien commune - said that currently the whole commune has 239 households raising a total of about 1,656 ducks.
In recent years, raising deer for sale and selling breeding animals has been considered the main economic development occupation of local people, helping people have a stable source of income, escape poverty, and many households even get rich when raising large-scale.
This year's velvet season, Mr. Phan Van Thang's family (born in 1973, residing in Son Giang commune, Huong Son district) has 6 male deer for the welcoming of the herd. It is estimated that the family earned over 70 million VND.
Mr. Thang shared that star elephants usually give velvet from January to April of the lunar calendar every year. Usually, each child usually has velvet once a year. However, if well cared for, some children can give birth to 2 sets of velvet bulbs per year.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huy (born in 1967, residing in Son Lam commune) said that every year, from the income from selling velvet, his family earns from 80 - 90 million VND to spend, cover living expenses, and raise children to study.
Mr. Huy said that to have a pair of velvet nests of good weight and quality, it is necessary to invest in them thoroughly and carefully, especially in their diet. When the deer start to produce velvet bulbs, it is necessary to add starchy foods such as corn flour, rice, cassava to keep the deer healthy and develop velvet bulbs, and when cut, it will reach a high weight.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Huong Son district, currently, the total number of deer in Huong Son area is 47,310. Of which, about 22,350 were velvet-growing with an estimated output of more than 19.9 tons. It is expected that in 2025, people in the district will earn over 218 billion VND from selling velvet antler.
